So for the back of the room:

Defederation is a freedom of association in safety thing.

Moderation is also a freedom of association in safety thing.

Not a freedom of speech thing.

Both Human Rights do need to be considered together.

They are articles nineteen and twenty on the #UDHR

I wish more of us in Tech designed our systems with this in mind.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights

OHCHR

@onepict

seems like tech needs the equivalent of the hippocratic oath. first, do no harm.

@paul_ipv6 I think many of us had a lack of education in the humanities.

Some folks in Tech absolutely would break an oath.

@onepict

didn't know it at the time but over my career i've become more and more convinced that my heavy doses of humanities in college have been vastly more useful in my tech career than the coding classes i had.

@paul_ipv6 @onepict I learned critical thinking in art school, in a Feminist Criticism of Art & Culture class.

Went into tech later, lured by the promise of a good job with a good wage. Had the misfortune of a cubicle right in front of the CEO's office. I didn't last two years.

Kept my critical thinking skills, though. No regrets.

@StaceyCornelius @paul_ipv6 Yeah I had one short professional issues course that mainly covered licencing for my CS degree.

I'm fortunate that I've read a lot outside of tech and my time doing support for a lot of small businesses developed my empathy.

My hobbies and the community around those also rounded me off.

@onepict

Tech needs a helsinki type declaration just like the medical community follows that protects people.
