My first tx was around 1962 and was accidental. As a 14 year old I discovered that a telephone carbon microphone as cathode resistance of my single valve (tube) home brew model control transmitter meant that speech could be heard at the solenoid on the plane. Not long before we had a local net.
Frequency? Anyone's guess.
