'the Iranian regime, for all the denunciations you might level at it, has a huge capacity for pain, and for prolonged escalation without a clear scenario of military victory against a superpower, something the American regime finds inconceivable'

Trump’s chaotic war on Iran has dragged into its sixth week because he is fighting an adversary he doesn’t understand

Ignorance and arrogance were his drivers. The idea that the regime plays by different rules, with its own goals, never occurred to him, says Guardian columnist Nesrine Malik

The Guardian
'The story of the Middle East and wider Arab world over the past four decades has been one of domestication, of cultivating closeness with the US...it is, in fact, why Iran sees its Gulf neighbours as fair game, as countries that through hosting American security bases and normalising relations with Israel have rendered themselves proxy powers that are tacit participants in the war even if not offensive ones'

For #Trump, #Iran has to be seen to be submitting to his will and concede defeat. For #Iran it has to outlast #DJT for another 4-6 weeks. #Iran need not win any battle against #US just like #Vietcong and #Taliban. Post the 4-6 weeks damage to the world economy and petrodollar would be severe.
Worse if #US walks away declaring victory while Iran is still run by #Ayatollahs the blowback on #GCC countries and #Israel would be #tremendous.
