Bill Zaumen@georgetakei Heard this morning that people in the Pentagon are now referring to Hegseth as Dumbnamara, a take on Robert McNamara, the secretary of defense during the Vietnam war. McNamara thought we were winning based on quantitative measurements - things like "body counts" - with the risk of focusing on what is easily measured rather than whether the measurements reflect reality.
@georgetakei The risk of trying to be quantitative is that, when "management" wants certain numbers to go up, there's a tendency on the part of some individuals to try to report higher numbers. So for things like "body counts", to keep the boss happy, people would count body parts as separate bodies, thereby inflating the numbers. It turned into a classic case of "garbage in, garbage out."
