It's more than an embarrassment. It's a reason to put him on trial at The Hague.
@georgetakei happy to welcome them here...

@hermannus
...and introduce them to proper fries with Joppiesaus <3

@georgetakei

@georgetakei
I volunteer to drive him there.....
Ooooops that wasn't a bridge that was a pier !!
@georgetakei just a shame that won't happen as the US doesn't recognise the ICC really. The The Hague Act makes that perfectly clear.
@georgetakei So I expect Pete Hegseth to be extradited to The Hague by Trump, since Trump had not the slightest idea what Hegseth, who by the way he hardly knew and never met, was doing.

@georgetakei

I’m a bit tired of hearing Americans say their government and its actions are an “embarrassment”. As long as you are just “embarrassed” you’re not on my side.

#USPol

@DavidM_yeg @georgetakei

I’m *embarrassed* when a piece of spinach gets stuck in my teeth and no one tells me.

I’m *disgusted, horrified and livid* that my government is committing war crimes.

Words matter.

@ScruffyJunco @DavidM_yeg @georgetakei

"Words matter."

Yes. But they're also quite uselessly incapable of expressing some shit. How fucking pissed and sad and yes embarrassed I am would be some of that shit.

@DavidM_yeg @georgetakei there are no words capable of expressing the combination of horror, anger, nausea, and grief this administration brings.
@georgetakei Did I missed something? When did #trump critizied #Putin of war crimes?
@daft_wully @georgetakei I don't think Trump understands what a war crime is.
@derderwish @georgetakei True. He doesn't even know what a real crime is.

@daft_wully @georgetakei Yeah. You missed stuff. I can't readily find a source for it since so much has happened and it's been a while, but Trump has definitely accused Putin of war crimes. I did a search and the assist agrees with me, but it's just full of the latest news with Trump being accused of war crimes. I doubt I can get through that noise to find it.

He especially did a lot of it during campaigning when he was pretending to be tough and could bring peace to Ukraine in like 10 min.

@georgetakei Trail at The Hague with Jack Smith PRESIDING.
@georgetakei The USA would actually have to give him to Den Hague. They never implemented the laws to handle war criminals themselves, any such military trials in the past were pretty laughful in comparison. Especially compared to how harshly they punish certain civilian crimes...
@georgetakei Unfortunately, the US never ratified the Rome Statute, and we passed the Hague Invasion Act specifically to foreclose this ever happening to US forces or politicians.

Moulton: I know active duty Marines who now refer to Pete Hegseth's department as the department of war crimes. That's because they do things like this, destroy civilian infrastructure, which, just to be clear, is a war crime. It's meant to hurt civilians.

This is the same stuff that we criticize Vladimir Putin for doing in Ukraine.

He doesn't know how to get out. So what is he doing? He's resorting to war crimes. It's an embarrassment.

@georgetakei The Hague is a small city and doesn't deserve the scum that is put on trial there

@georgetakei

Those
Marines
Can
Quit
Now
Or
Be
Tried
Later,
Then.

They are complicit in war crimes until they choose not to be anymore.

@GGMcBG @georgetakei Military personnel, in general, can’t just quit. Officers who’ve met their minimum required service can resign, but enlisted personnel sign up for a particular # of years and can’t leave until that’s up. People who haven’t served seem to think it’s like any other job where you can just walk away, but that’s not true. Even refusing unlawful orders is much more complicated than it seems at first glance, & could send you to Leavenworth.

@Cuchelain

"I vas just unter contract!"

Sounds lame.

@georgetakei Just like racism and fascism, the MAGA Americans will now cry that everything is war crimes and dilute the term down

Media will join them too

@georgetakei Wouldn't be the first american tbh...
@georgetakei Do those "active duty Marines" not have the obligation to stop the perpetrator of war crimes? They could end this if they wanted to.
@georgetakei See my site: www.departmentofwarcrimes.com

@georgetakei

Thank you very much for helping to socialize the moniker "Department of War Crimes".
From this point on I will never refer to Hegseth's DOD using any other name.

@georgetakei

FFS. Iran is surrounded on three sides by big fuck-off mountains, and on the other side by water.

The Persians almost never got invaded, bcs above.

It's closer from Poland to Iran than from the top of Iran to the bottom of Iran.

And the orange shit-gibbon has NO idea what that means. He is an utter *loser* and needs to be told, every 5 minutes, on live TV, that he's a loser.

Then he'll threaten to nuke them, and (hopefully) all the intelligent people in the room/world will go "No. You do that, and *we'll* nuke you. Fuck off, you demented nonce".

@bytebro

"And the orange shit-gibbon has NO idea what that means. He is an utter *loser* and needs to be told, every 5 minutes, on live TV, that he's a loser. "

I'd pay good money to see that, even more if I could stream it 24/7.

@georgetakei

@georgetakei You're free to hire his family's crypto empire, in order to secure vital infrastructure.

Yours,
God (awful) syndrome

@georgetakei But Hegseth can't commit war crimes all by himself. They only get committed if servicepeople fail in their duty to refuse illegal orders and choose instead to go out and commit the war crimes for him.
@georgetakei Heard this morning that people in the Pentagon are now referring to Hegseth as Dumbnamara, a take on Robert McNamara, the secretary of defense during the Vietnam war. McNamara thought we were winning based on quantitative measurements - things like "body counts" - with the risk of focusing on what is easily measured rather than whether the measurements reflect reality.
@georgetakei The risk of trying to be quantitative is that, when "management" wants certain numbers to go up, there's a tendency on the part of some individuals to try to report higher numbers. So for things like "body counts", to keep the boss happy, people would count body parts as separate bodies, thereby inflating the numbers. It turned into a classic case of "garbage in, garbage out."
@georgetakei Just ship him over. He’s welcome here!
@georgetakei If I go down to the store and shoplift a bite to eat, I go to jail. But war crimes... those people are still just out there, doing more war crimes.
Make it make sense!

@georgetakei

trump (Krasnow) ordering the same kind of war crimes that Putin does.

Logical, he phones with his esteemed leader pretty much every day and asks for advice and instructions...

@georgetakei I'm sure you know that the United States does not recognize the ICC. There's actually such a thing as a "The Hague Invasion Act".

@Eetschrijver

"The bill was introduced by U.S. Senator Jesse Helms (Republican from North Carolina) and U.S. Representative Tom DeLay (Republican from Texas)..." and was enacted August 2, 2002.

I knew about the law but not the people responsible. Zero surprise seeing these guys' names stuck to it..

American Service-Members' Protection Act - Wikipedia

@IAmDannyBoling
I didn't either, but an educated guess might well see these names turn up. Especially that creep Jesse Helms.
