I'm sure the fediverse already knows this but every so often I still run into someone who doesn't.
@russss admittedly I use only one of these plugins so didn't know, however I've been using libretube and freetube for quite a while.
@oni I gave FreeTube a try a little while ago but I really missed the recommendations because the YouTube recommendation algorithm works incredibly well for me. I have it very well trained.
@oni I have been toying with using ytdl-sub to ingest some channels into Jellyfin but I think I would need a lot more disk space to download my entire subscription list...
@russss Ah, I've never really used the recommended. Perhaps I should? I'll take a look at these plugins. Thanks
@russss It's wild the number of normal people who don't ad block.
@Akki @russss I do use uBlock Origin but I hadn't seen sponsor block.
@russss @frassmith You can also pay for YouTube premium and actually help compensate the folks who are making the videos you like to watch. I know that paying for stuff we can get for free is hard for some people to imagine, but the only way you're going to get great content is to compensate people who create it. #JustAThought #ImagineThat
@mlanger @russss I agree, and I do pay for YouTube premium. However you'd probably be amazed at the premium that I pay compared with, say, US customers, just because I live in the UK. And no, it's not just the effect of 20% sales tax. It's around $17 per month here.

@frassmith @russss I think I'm still paying $10 a month through Verizon, my phone company. I think the price if you buy it through a YouTube iOS app is $18. They have to cut in Apple for their share. Through the website I think it might be either $13 or $15.

But I only subscribe to two streaming services (YouTube and currently Apple), so I don't think it's a lot to pay. Turning off ads on YouTube deprives creators of revenue, so I won't do that. They do get premium subscriber revenues.
