Amazing Spider-Man #103 (December 1971)

Script: Roy Thomas; art: Gil Kane & Frank Giacoia

J. Jonah Jameson is desperate over his newspaper’s declining sales (which he blames on television, which has been replacing newspapers as a news medium). When he sees a news report about a supposed monster that has been spotted in the Savage Land, Jonah sees an opportunity to land a scoop that would save his newspaper. (1/4)

He immediately hires an expedition to Antarctica, taking Peter Parker along as a photographer and Gwen Stacy as the “girl in the jungle” (Roy Thomas must have just watched King Kong when he wrote this story). (2/4)

Of course, the monster, named Gog, soon appears and captures #GwenStacy (any resemblance is purely coincidental). Back to the story: conveniently, Peter breaks away from the group and is able to transform into #SpiderMan. In addition, #KaZar and Zabu also arrive to rescue the “damsel in distress.” (3/4)
While the heroes search for Gwen, we discover that Gog is an alien whose ship crashed in the #SavageLand and who is being controlled by #Kraven the Hunter, who intends to use him to take over the Savage Land. (4/4)
