You can choose one desktop for your collection of Linux and BSD computers, a mix of laptops and desktops. Your only choices are MATE or Xfce. All of your computers will use that same desktop.

Your computers are at most ten years old, and their operating systems are no more than a year old.

What do you install?

I almost made this a survival question, but I didn't want anyone feeling that level of stress even hypothetically. It's just one hypothetical office with a variety of installs that's decided to use only one interface.

@jgamble

I use KDE at home, and when I was workin' I used XFCE at work. Small workstations, not much use for anything beyond running a bunch of terminal windows and an instance of QGIS. Worked great.

@jgamble I am sure MATE is a fine desktop, and that the team behind it are awesome people. But, yeah, Xfce for life.

Lightweight, but with many useful features. It has the kind of stability that governments, investment markets and seismographs on the San Andreas fault can only dream about.
