Putting an ask out for a friend. She's hoping someone might have some of these Mars Lumograph 100 EE pencils tucked away somewhere that they don't want. They're unavailable now and there's nothing quite like them out there. If you have any let me know and I'll put you in contact.

Please boost!

@welshpixie Quite a while ago I was trying out every dark pencil I could find to use for life drawing. I couldn’t find any of the EE pencils in my remaining collection, but I’d suggest trying the Conté Pierre Noire pencils in an HB - they’re fairly hard, very black, fine grained, not scratchy.

@Davida @welshpixie The EB and EE pencils were phased out about 25 years ago. I remember using them when I was in college, and old stock was around in art stores for a while. Staedtler renamed them as 7B and 8B grades, but the new pencils are a bit different. Possibly there was a change to the carbon/graphite ratio to make them more consistent in “feel” with the lighter grades.
@Davida @welshpixie Staedtler has a separate line of high carbon blend pencils called Mars Lumograph Black Drawing Pencils. They’re similar to the EE pencils but grades are different than standard graphite, the 2B is already very dark: https://midoco.ca/products/staedtler-mars-lumograph-black-drawing-pencils. For matte blacks I like the Pierre Noire pencils a bit better.
