Inside the small & large #greenhouses. Part of the E.A.R.T.H #gardening space - which is part of the ETP department at Camosun College.
My Indigenous friend, Jada (she goes by Jodi at work), has been an instructor with this department for over a decade. She's actively decolonizing at work β€οΈπŸ’šβ€οΈ

@PhoenixSerenity I love wall leeks (or wall cabbages as we call them here in the UK).

About 5 years ago, my sister gave me a present of 3 succulent heads in a tray, that were supposed to last 3 weeks or so. I found out you could possibly grow a full plant from them, and put them on some soil in a plant pot. Two of them survived (a great achievement for me) and recently one of them flowered! Apparently they only do this about once every 7 years.

@cybervegan I have those ones. I do not have house leek trees & want to get a couple! They grow much larger!
@cybervegan These(the ones you have) will actually fully spread & flower every year - when planted outdoors.
@cybervegan You can also easily propagate those ones with cuttings πŸ™‚βœŒοΈ
@PhoenixSerenity Yep. All you need is a leaf - that's what these were raised from. Good to hear it will flower annually - the flowers are so pretty! I hope the red one also flowers at some point.
I absolutely love my friend, Jada (Jodi at work). She's a lead instructor in EPT department at #CamosunCollege.
We picked each other up at community orchard 2 years ago & have been close galpals ever since. We're both POC artists & huge on land back & decolonization movements! We're doing a lot of skills sharing & will be working on a a few collaborative art pieces this year.
Jada is currently the #IndigenousArtist in residence for #VancouverIslandVisualArts & we do work out of her residential art studio space in downtown #VictoriaBC
Jada is only one year younger than me πŸ™‚

@PhoenixSerenity Worth celebrating. Excuse my ignorance, what does ETP stand for?
@Broadfork Employment Training & Preparation πŸ™‚
@PhoenixSerenity Thank you. A worthy celebration indeed and I’m also pleased to see Mountain Equipment Coop is still going strong.
@Broadfork I got that MEC jacket at a thrift store for $10 over a decade ago. It was in mint condition & it's been with me for many adventures πŸ™‚

@PhoenixSerenity In a past life I did a cycle tour up Vancouver Island. Nanaimo to Port Hardy and across to Calgary.

I bought a few things in MEC in Vancouver. It all did me well for ages.

@Broadfork Good quality gear lasts a long time! I'm a poor woman so I hunt for quality gear at thrift shops & flea markets because I can't afford to buy them new.
@Broadfork I've never paid more than $50 for quality outerwear. I will hunt for used, mint condition gear until finding some in my frugal price range.

@PhoenixSerenity Best way. Likewise, I don’t buy much at all these days but when I do it has to be good to last. Even better if I can find another use for them.

The bike wheels on my trommel for sieving compost are from the bike I toured Vancouver island and BC into Alberta on.

@Broadfork @PhoenixSerenity Ha I am an MEC member from the early 1990s, still have a fleece from back then! Good stuff!

EDIT: I am still pissed that the MEC board sold the co-op's assets without consulting or remunerating members.

@ColesStreetPothole @PhoenixSerenity The cycling jacket I bought lasted me for a long, long time until the inner liner started to flake apart. I was sorry to see that go but it had, had a good life.

Sorry to hear MEC didn’t do right by its members.
