@AccordionBruce @yourautisticlife @ANDERSTORPSFESTIVALEN Well, the story must be long. Why did the camp guys ban accordions, but not hurdy gurdys? My part of the story is only that I visited the camp with an old secondhand accordion that I didn't want to keep for long anyway (would never take my good ones on vacation). When I noticed the mysterious no-go area, I dropped the accordion before passing. Their tent village, their rules!

First person I met with her #HurdyGurdy talked about going to #FolkMusic groups where people had never met someone who knew how to tune one
And having to reintroduce the instrument as if to frightened villagers

I once met a guy who had bought a hurdygurdy only months ago and was pretty unexperienced, yet totally convinced of his talent 😬 We politely asked if we could test the instrument - and tuned it. Upon returning, he de-tuned it again 😱
The evening's hero was that guy who (directly after the next song) stood up and shouted "hey, thanks for entertaining us, I'll buy you a beer, would you like to join our table" 😂

Some instruments were the hacked-together height of technology to meet the needs in their time
But in retrospect absurd compared to later innovations
And yet unique and charming in their own right
The #HurdyGurdy was the #Mellotron of the 15th century
