"'Do not listen to them. Be subject to the king of Babylon. Then you will continue to live. Why should this city be made a pile of rubble?'" (Jeremiah 27:17)

The word of YHWH through #Jeremiah seemed rather #treasonous

He encouraged and exhorted the Judahites to submit to the yoke of #Nebuchadnezzar king of #Babylon and preached how YHWH had given Nebuchadnezzar sovereignty over all the lands.

We can hopefully understand why this message seemed contrary to everything the Judahites believed about their #God and about themselves.

But Judah should have listened to Jeremiah: if they had not rebelled, Jerusalem would not have been destroyed.  They would not, and they all, including Jeremiah, would suffer the same distressing fate.

Why might the people of God resist hearing messages which seem contrary to everything they believe about their God and themselves?
