1. People from Iran are prevented from taking part
BUT
2. People from Israel are welcome.

@rapsneezy @gnome you need to talk to the US Congress about this. GNOME Foundation is US-based entity, we genuinely cannot do anything about this.
If it was up to me I wouldn't exclude anyone just because of where they were born/live, but alas, I cannot do anything about it.

There are many reasons not to be in the USA.
Saying it takes effort tells us how much you value your comfort vs human suffering.
As the other persons said, there are almost 200 countries on planet earth.
Many of them are not in, as I think you wanted to say "the west".
On that note, it's not quite that simple to move outside without losing all you have build up. I honestly would appreciate a fully independent GNOME Europe and GNOME Asia branch of the foundation, but this wouldn't really cover this specific issue.

But you have to realize that the issue is not without nuances.
While there are millions of people realizing that US Empire is Fascist, there are also millions who realized that Iran Government also Fascist.
There are considerable amount of nuances I will not be able to convey on a single post.
I have decided never to use Gnome as long as it behaves like this.
And I will be advising people of good conscience not to either, highlighting the disparity that you don't allow fellows from Iran but you do from ***, citing inconvenience as your reason not to do anything about it.
