Energy transitional kitchen: moving off gas & wood without a full remodel. Someone must have traded an original fireplace for the wood burning stove, which likely became the main source of heat. But since we brush past it to use the door, someone was bound to be burned. Then the gas lines were red tagged for not being up to code. Great! We had to replace the gas water heater too, so now we have a rooftop solar water heater and a small electric backup. We use a countertop oven and an induction cooktop--neither very good, in truth. But they will do. We have much more pressing problems. The roof might be made sound this week. One can hope. #beforeandafter #climate #diy #porto #azulejo #azulejos #energy #induction
@reformSchool What problems are you having with your #induction hub? Ours has served us very well for many years.
@[email protected] I believe it was optimized for metrics on boiling water quickly, which it does with ease on the highest level 9. But to cook, I would like a setting between 2 and 3. 4 to 8 are never useful. And pancakes are an exercise in dithering: 3 until too hot, back to 2 until too cool, repeat.
It's not a problem with induction per se. We used induction happily enough before. But I cannot recommend IKEA's two burner cooktop. I'm glad you like yours! Anything you recommend?

@reformSchool Hmm, we have an IKEA now (4-ring) and had tested the concept with a plug-in single ring Lidl thing, and were happy with both of them. I am no cook, but all the 0 - 9 and P settings on ours seem distinct and useful. Maybe the various ring sizes/powered help. I almost always use the smallest though!

Is an induction hob better than cooking with gas? How about health and carbon? #induction #cutCarbon #airQuality

@reformSchool beautiful woodstove though 😍
@[email protected] indeed! I bet bread proofs well next to that beastie.
