Anybody got a UGreen NAS?

Do recent firmware have a built in remote backup capability that supports S3 buckets as the target?

I see conflicting messages online so want to check?

E.g. early suggests no capability and others saying they have restic support.

#homelab #nas #ugreen

To be clear, I know I can probably roll my own solution on one of these, but this is for my Dad and I want it to be out of the box.

The Synology it would replace has HyperBackup that will work, it's just so old and slow that running it targeting a local drive (to pre-seed the remote S3 bucket) has done 3% in 4 days so far.

@ben What did @bloor get in the end?
@srtcd424 @ben Yeah I have a pair of Ugreen boxes. They are quite good. I'd have to check if they support S3 buckets for offsite. I'll check later and report back.

@ben why not an SBC, with powered dual drive bay?

Install dietpi or armbian os.

@tootbrute Because a new Pi 5 costs the same as a 2 bay NAS as of yesterday before you buy the case and the driver enclosure...

And I don't want to have manage this thing

@ben from what I read, they only support Restic via Docker. Which means that super cheap one they just launched can’t do it because it doesn’t run Docker containers.

Happy to be proved wrong though cos that was the only barrier to purchasing one for my kid, everything else seemed really manageable about it

@ben I have a couple of 4800+ units. Cloud drives supported are

Baidu Netdisk
Google Drive
Aliyun Drive
Quark Drive
Microsoft OneDrive
Dropbox
5 115 Life

It was just Google Drive last time I looked. I'd imagine S3 support is coming and doable via Docker in the meantime.
