Exhausted by a day that began w/ oral argument in a case that should have never have made it to the Supreme Court, ended with an incoherent ramble from Trump about his war of choice in Iran.

Other tiring moments: Trump’s drop-in at oral argument; his obnoxious remarks re leaving NATO; gutting of U.S. Forest Service.

Deeply fatigued by the ongoing capitulation of the Republican Fascists who control Congress. Their utter dereliction of duty leaves all of us captive to Trump and his coterie. 1/

And yet, today also included a lot of organizing and action for 1A Santa Fe. https://bit.ly/1ASantaFe

Interestingly, people from other municipalities in other parts of the country have been getting in touch with me to discuss the problems they have faced in getting permits to demonstrate and how to deal with them. 2/

@heidilifeldman You are such a good human being. Thank you for what you are doing and my best wishes that you and everyone opposing Felon47 will succeed. For the sake of the world.
@RFancio thank you for these very kind words
@heidilifeldman 🙏🏻
They are well deserved, really!
@heidilifeldman
It exhausts me to the core and yet every morning I still arise to take on another day

@heidilifeldman The news yesterday about the end of the Forest Service hit me harder than I expected it to.

I chalk it up to being born and raised in the West—a lot of folks in today’s Congress have never seen the land protected by the Forest Service.

What a shame.

When I was a kid, some guy a generation older than my dad (who recently died at 96), mentioned that it was a good thing that so much of the West was protected land. “otherwise it’d just be ruined”

@grammasaurus @heidilifeldman

☝️ Ended the Forest Service

Sometimes we just get numb to the insanity, but let that one sink it.

@mastodonmigration @grammasaurus @heidilifeldman

On the good side of this nasty mess, if we live past it, we have space to build something better.

@mastodonmigration @grammasaurus @heidilifeldman I was chatting with my best friend about it yesterday, and we are both just so surprised at how consistently malignant he is

Everyone decries how his actions are stupid and make no sense and reflect on his capabilities but they are definitely consistent in terms of negative outcomes.

@mastodonmigration @heidilifeldman but hey, major news outlets don’t even report on it, so it can’t be very important, right?

@grammasaurus @heidilifeldman
My parents are super conservative so I generally avoid discussing politics with them, but when I told my mom about the forestry destruction yesterday she ranted about it for an hour. Then ranted about cuts to research in general. Her very poor and rural (Trump loving) home town in the boreal forest zone relies on that forestry research and maintenance activity and has no local money to replace it.

@notthatkindofdoctor @grammasaurus @heidilifeldman

Opportunities here for paying people in rural areas to preserve forest and open space though ala Kim Stanley Robinson's novels, if someone gets around to it...

@notthatkindofdoctor @grammasaurus @heidilifeldman do you think this leads to your parents voting against the GOP in the future?
@heathborders @grammasaurus @heidilifeldman
Dad, no. He's full blown racist, xenophobic, homophobic, misogynist and doesn't care that his votes harm his own children's livelihoods and his own retirement money. Mom will deny reality and justify voting for local conservatives because they 'seem nice' and blame the bad stuff on DC politicians.

@notthatkindofdoctor @heidilifeldman Aww…that’s sad! So many places didn’t think donny’s cruelties would affect them, and now the chickens come home to roost.

they didn’t think that overturning Roe would lead to rural hospital closures, they didn’t think that getting kids off SNAP benefits would hurt local farmers….the list is long.

@heidilifeldman

He didn't gut the Forestry Service. He issued a fictional story on a piece of paper signed in sharpie.

The US Forestry Service was established by Congress in 1905. The President *literally cannot dismantle it*. Period.

In fact, both the Courts and SCOTUS have been pretty explicit about this just this year, in the case of VOA and other services *established by Congress*.

Forestry Service employees should just keep going to work, doing their thing.

Don't comply in advance.

@heidilifeldman

BTW, talking about it like he "gutted" the Forest Service is also complying in advance.

A better reaction is to ridicule him and force him to enforce his ludicrous nonsense.

Remember - everyone complied in advance in early 2025 and, even though Trump lost in Court, those orgs don't exist anymore in any *practical* sense.

Backbones are in short supply, but those of us out here have to *at least* not give comfort to the enemy by rhetorically confirming their power grabs.
