It's the third largest city in Guangdong and one of the oldest. The license plates start with 粤E (粤A is Guangzhou and 粤B is Shenzhen).

The city is home to many, many intangible heritages including Foshan Lion Dance, on which the style of lion dancing all over Southeast Asia is based on, southern chinese martial arts, a couple of dishes and a couple of crafts.

It's a huge city, sure, but it's got bubbles of relaxed pace like Chuihong Road. It's full of indie style cafés and eateries (albeit on the slightly more expensive side) and also stationery and bookstores. The presence of scooters is less noticeable and you find people strolling at a leisurely pace, which is quite a rare thing in big cities.

There's also Lingnan Xintiandi. An area of qing dynasty cantonese mansions converted to cafes, bars, eateries, boutique shops and more. The ancestral temple is nearby. This place gives of a bougie vibe with its impeccable cleanliness and presence of luxury shops, but there are also shops for the everyday person. There's even a marriage registration office here.
