it’s the one message no parent ever wants to get from their child 😱
@cabel “Ask your brother”
@cabel We are the odd generation that seems to be stuck between parents who need help with technology and kids who need help with technology. What happens once we're all gone? 🤣
@Bluedonkey @cabel Maybe tech corporations will actually have to fix their products?
@kalleboo @cabel Only if they can get AI up to speed in time... 😉
@cabel I get this call bi-weekly. The shiver up my spine when I read this. 🥶
@cabel it’s time for The Talk.

@cabel I’ve worked in printing my whole adult life

I fear this question from everyone

@cabel

I get this from my husband, mom, dad, brother and six friends.

@cabel — thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
@cabel First thing that comes to my mind is 3d printing. And even there I might be the one to ask my son for help :D
@Cabel Sasser i stopped having friends after starting to ignore such messages
@cabel usually it’s my dad asking me, and he messages “call me asap please”. One day it’ll be a real emergency and I’ll ignore it for a day.
@cabel My solution. 1. Discard WiFi printing and put a cable between PC and printer, or network it. If you must print from a phone/tablet send it to the connected PC. 2. Use a laser printer. Inlets will clog if you don't use them everyday and are ruinously expensive if you do. 3. Linux. CUPS on any recent mainstream distro will find a connected printer during installation and configure it automagically. I believe Apple and BSD use CUPS too but I've no experience with them.
@cabel A few years ago when my son was still living at home my husband was in the shower. His phone started to ping with messages and I paused for a moment- I wouldn’t normally check his phone but it pinged again so I opened it up to find a message from our son saying the door handle had broken to the Ensuite downstairs and he was locked naked in the shower. He was still young enough to be fairly mortified that it was mum who came to the rescue!
