I've visited the ruins of Fountains Abbey quite a few times, but this is the first time with the 360 camera.

Love the pattern of the vaulted roof.

And I'm assuming we all see the demonic face here? Curved horns. An eye of light on the left, a black one on the right, and a long tongue sticking out.
@eclectech
oh! no not a demonic face at all! a friendly church creature!
@moonrabbit I can't unsee curved horns! Maybe a silly friendly demon blowing a raspberry.
@eclectech
i'm with you on the horns; i just see maybe ... maybe demon just in the sense of from another plane, not actually bad ...
@eclectech Benevolent Queen mother of the chimpanzee clan, adorned with light.
@eclectech You missed my fluked tail.
@eclectech I did skip past it because it was giving me monster vibes 😂
@eclectech It actually reminds me of a stained glass pattern, but I don't know what it's called. That is a beautifully judged photograph.
@kbm0 Thank you. That would make a beautiful panel of stained glass.
@eclectech The rough floor and vaulting reminds me of Finchale Priory in Co. Durham, one of my favourite places. I guess it may be typical of a medieval undercroft.
@kbm0 Aye, that would make sense. It's an amazing space. Great acoustics!
@eclectech
the face!!
@eclectech
i'll always have a soft spot for fountains because it's on the cover of a book called monasteries in the landscape by mick aston, who signed it for me when i met him once, long ago, when i was studying such things ...
@moonrabbit It is such a beautiful place. I'm a sucker for a good ruin - all those stories in the stones - and it is one of the best.
@eclectech
same same. part of what i very much miss about home. ofc there are ruins here, but they're not the same. not the same at all.
@eclectech @moonrabbit been once. it was lovely. couldn't manage it with family now unless we hired two off-road wheelchairs… unless it has changed beyond recognition…
@fishidwardrobe @moonrabbit There are some very steep slopes there, but I did notice they had National Trust mobility scooters available for visitors.
@eclectech @moonrabbit wow, it really *has* changed! when we were there it was walk or there was a landrover to take you up the hill!
@fishidwardrobe @moonrabbit You got me curious so I just went and checked - they still have transportation between the three entry points, but also have mobility scooters and manual wheelchairs available for hire (free of charge). That feels like good progress.

@eclectech

Holy Lovecraftian Geometry.

@eclectech That looks like something M C Escher would draw
@eclectech
Great shot — so unusual in black & white! 👏👏👏
