Trump to attend Supreme Court hearing on birthright citizenship

President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend a Supreme Court hearing in which judges will hear arguments on his executive order limiting birthright citizenship. It’s an extraordinary move and there is no record of a sitting president attending the high court’s arguments. The president’s official schedule, released by the White House, included Wednesday’s hearing, and Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday that he would attend. The justices will hear the president’s appeal after a lower court struck down the citizenship restrictions.

“I think it’s basically kind of a strong-arming tactic, wanting to be there, intimidate them with his presence,” said Michelle McKeithen, one of the people who gathered outside the court during the arguments. “And, kind of a statement of: ‘Make a decision while I’m here, looking you dead in your eye — and don’t make the wrong decision.’”

Trump Attends Supreme Court Oral Arguments in a Presidential First

President Trump’s presence in the court puts him face to face with justices whom he has tried to bully and intimidate.

"It is dangerous and wildly wrong for a U.S. President to attend oral argument in a Supreme Court case."

It's typical #DonaldTrump #StochasticTerrorism

"I'm here, I know who you are, and I'm going to watch what you do and say very closely. Don't think for one second that I don't know exactly where you live. Or that my supporters don't know exactly where you live."

@FinchHaven @xankarn I agree that it was a completely inappropriate intimidation tactic. Hopefully it will backfire. Perhaps at least some of them will begin to regret their votes on the immunity decision. Unlikely though. His dramatic exit in the middle of questioning of the opposing attorney was incredibly rude. Or maybe it was because he just can’t stay awake longer than an hour.
