I recently discovered that my favourite open source bible app is now using AI. I ditched it and attempted to switch to the YouVersion bible app, but they require registration 😕

So I'm without a bible app at the moment. That is where my old Gideon's pocket bible comes in handy, I guess. I need to look up where I put it.

@demiguise Wouldn't a PDF stand in?
@rose @demiguise yeah that seems like an odd thing to require an app for
@Piejacker875 @demiguise I can imagine that such an app could be very useful, particularly for search, but a PDF can be searched more easily than a hardcopy.
@rose @Piejacker875 Hm... might be an idea. I'll take a look.

@Piejacker875 @rose @demiguise A PDF has the huge disadvantage of a fixed font size and page size.

Also maybe the first feature of any bible reader app is finding texts by selecting book, chapter and verses. Passages in the bible are not referenced by page number.

@dboehmer @Piejacker875 @demiguise Of course. Had I thought about it for even a minute I'd have suggested an EPUB. https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/10

@demiguise Is it no option for you to just not use the AI features?
@dboehmer I'm unsure, to be honest - I did not yet manage to figure out what exactly they are doing with AI. I saw a `CLAUDE.md` file in their repo.
@demiguise
#YouVersion is full of trackers. I’m quite stunned that something like this could be offered in a #christian context.

@fexplorer Sad to see... to be honest, I didn't even investigate the trackers 😔
