Anyone using the Digitone, Digitakt, or other similar Elektron boxes know if there is a basic peak meter somewhere in the UI?

Or is that a kind of thing that makes no sense to use on a synth and instead only on a recording target or destination elsewhere? I'm trying to figure something out in the context of the compressor, in terms of a reference point to adjust each track.

@990000 On the compressor page there's a meter (a couple of pixels wide, on the left) which shows how much the compressor compresses. I don't know if that's what you mean?
A regular peak-meter on the other hand (like a VU meter on a mixer) does not exist as far as I know. (I've got the Digitakt 1, Digitone 1 and Analog4 mk2.)

I've got a pretty shallow knowledge of compression though so I don't know exactly what your goal is. I usually just go by ear. 😄

@desolationpark thanks, same here, I just know the basics of compression but I'm basically looking for some kind of reference point to avoid clipping.

I saw the meter in the compressor, but there are no markers or values. So I guess you have to just make up a reference point on your own based on that meter and adjust tracks relative to it and approximate? Then just turn the master level when recording out?

@990000 I don't think there's a reason to worry about clipping when working inside the machine. Just lower the output like you say, if it the mixer or recording equipment indicates clipping.
@desolationpark uh, no that’s the main reason I need a compressor. It’s basically impossible to have the sound be loud enough to sound normal when recording out. The peaks need clamping, or else by the time I increase the volume to normal level, the peaks get clipped and it sounds fucked up
