Never know when you need a hand forged iron ring to ballast your rope so you can throw it over the 5m high roof beam in the barn. Good thing I kept that.

Hoisted that sack of fresh woodchips up there, out of the way. Let's see if they dry like that or just get mouldy. Or drop on my head in a surprise attack.

@yngmar Nicely tied hitch knot! You must have been a sailor at one point in your life 😁 /s

@GoatsLive It seems to be the natural evolution of sailors to turn to farming/homesteading. Quite a few of our friends have at least dabbled with it after giving up the cruisinglife.

Up the border river between Spain and Portugal there's a whole community of cruisers who have taken root and bought up surrounding farmland (although the droughts and wildfires discouraged us from joining them). The locals were only too happy to sell it to them!

Then the solar panels and batteries slowly migrate from the boats to the barns 😆

@yngmar what gorgeous timber work!

@cathos It's about 90 years old. Used to have a wood shingle roof and you can still see the original shingles on the right half of the roof, covered with fibre-cement plates now.

If I win the lottery I'd love to put the third incarnation of roofing on that 300m² area 😆

@yngmar I usually just use a small sack full of rocks when I need to throw a line. But then again, I don’t have a cool hand-forged iron ring!
@c_dan4th I don't think I have a small sack to hand. Use whatever you got :)
@yngmar what's the goal of having dried wood chips? Is that a fabric sack? depending on how wet the chips are it might mold before it dries. Smaller/less bulky bags would probably work better? or put it in a sauna?

@Mutedog The goal for now is to find out if it works. Dried woodchips have many uses :)

It's a cheap chicken food sack, woven polypropylene, fairly permeably to air even if it weren't full of holes. I used one on the table saw to catch sawdust and that works fine, the air can leave, the sawdust stays in the sack.

@yngmar gotcha, I'd go for a smaller (or flatter) sack. I've dried wood chips for my smoker and have had mold grow in the middle of paper grocery bags full of chips. Stirring the chips up may also help.
@yngmar Do we get to vote? Because I'm all for the surprise attack.
@LilPecan You get to vote but I decide the result. Modern democracy!
