ACOSS just dropped the mic on gas giants: time for a proper 25% levy on exports, not some weak temporary windfall tax. These multinationals have been getting our gas basically for free, raking in $100b+ windfall profits from global crises while Aussies cop skyrocketing fuel bills, a housing emergency, and shredded social supports.
$17b a year could actually fund energy rebates, proper income support, housing, health, and renewables — instead of subsidising fossil fuel exec bonuses. Even One Nation and some Libs are open to it. The Albanese government should listen to ACOSS, the unions, the Greens, and the overwhelming majority of Australians. Tax the gas barons, help people doing it toughest. No more free ride for foreign multinationals on our resources.

ACOSS joins push for gas tax, as pressure builds for export levy

Australia’s peak body for community services, ACOSS, has joined the mounting support for a 25 per cent levy on gas exports.

@mojo Has anyone out of this multitude explained how they're magically going to get gas companies to pay that previously haven't for years?

Why is the solution to not paying one tax to invent another?
