Ok, deep breath…

Also last night, I mentioned how Borodin’s 2nd symphony, 1st movement, written 1869-1876, sounds just like a film noir score/late 1950s cop show theme—check it out!—and we got onto a chat about ‘les cinq’.

N’s violin teacher told me that César Cui wrote a bunch of miniatures for violin and piano that no one plays anymore. I downloaded all the scores this aft and will listen to the pieces tomorrow.

César Cui was born 85 km from where my father was born.
@culturednyc If you want to hear some Cui live, Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players are doing his 5 Pieces, Op. 56 on Monday (Apr 6): https://www.jupitersymphony.com/Calendar.htm#April

@culturednyc I've never listened to any Cui; I've never known where to start.

I do own the 3 Borodin symphonies on CD. None of them has particularly struck me yet, but I'll have to give the second another listen this morning.

@culturednyc I will say that several of the Prokofiev symphonies have struck me with the impression that they would have made fantastic Hitchcock soundtracks.
