My wife and I sat down to watch a show. Yay, right? It should have been a good time, and I was looking forward to it. But we decided to watching Shrinking, which is the top show on Apple TV right now and is classified as a comedy. We watched the first two episodes. It was singularly unfunny. I did not laugh at all, not even once. Wtf is wrong with the world today that we cannot make shows that are genuinely lol funny anymore?
@johncormier
Let me tell you about #kdrama!! Trust me, I barely chuckled at a lot of the Hollywood comedies, a bit more with Canadian, but still not much. I seriously laugh out loud at so many Korean dramas, even when the show has a generally serious theme. There is still wicked comedy tucked into it.
@EllenInEdmonton sounds like the perfect accompaniment to some Korean fried chicken, which I prob love too much for my own good. Is there one show in particular you could recommend for a newb?
@johncormier
There are so many good ones, but an excellent starter is Crash Landing On You, with the absurdity of a wealthy business owner paragliding into North Korea and falling in love with an army official in the village where she lands.
Also, if you want to enjoy some of our Alberta scenery, there is Can This Love Be Translated?, a show with some interesting quirks.
@EllenInEdmonton officially intrigued
@johncormier @EllenInEdmonton #kDrama is awesome and I definitely endorse giving them a go,. But since your initial post was specifically looking for humour/comedy references, a word of caution by way of a reminder: Humour is VERY subjective, possibly the most subjective of all genres. I've completed 341 #kDrama in the last 13 years, and I can very literally count on one hand the number I found funny. I loved lots, laughed little. YMMV of course, but just be prepared. 🙂
@ronsboy67 @johncormier @EllenInEdmonton Yes, I agree: some #kdrama that others think are funny, are not my taste, but others I find hilarious, so I suggest to give a few different ones a try.
@mel @johncormier @EllenInEdmonton Definitely! I loved #KnightFlower for example, but Ellen's mention of finding much humour in it has me thinking of a rewatch as I enjoyed it for other reasons and don't recall much that made me laugh
