I remember many moons ago, when I was at uni in Magdeburg, we had a massive power cut that took out the whole district. And I thought "Damn, the electric kettle doesn't work, I guess I'll have to boil water on the stove in the dark!" 🤡

I'm going to take a leap and say the stove wasn't gas? 😂

Are they? They're very common here and in Ireland! (Actually, my Dad made sure we had one growing up because he said at least if there's no electricity, we can eat!) ✨

My very first flat in 2004 had a gas stove, but it also still had storage heating. I think they gutted and refurbished the whole block after we moved out as it was terribly outdated. I remember the stove heated up very quickly, but it took ages to get it going in the first place. My flatmate had a knack for it, but I never mastered it. 😅 I also remember the smell and the residue it left all over the kitchen.
Everyone I know has a glass-ceramic stove, and more and more people are switching to induction hobs (including yours truly). But I see your point! To be honest, I'd never really thought about it before. 😅 Power outages are so rare these days ... And with more people installing solar panels (there's been a real boom in balcony solar power systems over the past few years), the idea of losing electricity has pretty much slipped everyone's mind. 🤔

Maybe it's us that are living in the past? 😂 To be fair, here in Bologna we've had maybe four pretty short outages since I've been here. Growing up as a child on the west coast - there were sooooooooo many! ✨

They're really cute, all gangly and leggy. 🐥🤭 And we finished a new flower bed in the front garden today (in the rain at 7 °C, yay), so I hope I'll have more flower models to share soon. 🤗 How are you doing? Anything interesting happening your end, aside from the posting woes? 😀 (Remember I'm German, so I take any "how are you?" questions very literally! 😋)

I'm calling it a night anyway – I'll have to get up super early for the chicks' wake-up service. We put them in the henhouse for the night with the old hen, but I'll need to get them out before they wake up properly. Otherwise, they'll get a whole set of bitch slaps from Henna for hogging her bed. 🫩

@meoralis @jess.stetson Oh YAAAAY! I hope everything goes well with the chickens and that they get along! ♥️ Lovely! What kind of flowers did you plant? I'm doing fine thanks! Spent most of my day at the park, taking photos. Lots of flowers, a pigeon and a turtle!! (It's a pretty bad turtle pic so let's see what we can do with it!) Oh and one of a bee! I was so excited about it I've already sent it to Jess 😂.
We love cat pictures around here! Actually, forgot to tell you there was a cat on a leash at the park and they were adorable!! 😭✨

I haven't planted anything yet, we've only put in the edging stones. And since our house was built on an ancient Indian burial ground (okay, maybe it was an industrial chicken farm ... wait a minute, that explains SO MUCH!), we had to use proper tools like a rotary hammer and abrasive saw to install them, which took ages. 😮‍💨 The flower bed faces north, so I'll probably go for some ferns (yay!!) and other shade-loving shrubs and bushes. I've got next week off, so I'll probably spent a few hours at a garden centre AND BUY ALL THE PLANTS! 😏 Sigh, spring must be in full swing in Bologna now! We almost had a flurry of snow today, I don't think turtles would cope here (yet). 😅

The fact that there are now chickens on the land that was once an industrial chicken farm is actually hilarious 😂 Their ancestors are speaking to them from below and telling them to act up! You need a Henxorcist! 😂 Some ferns and shrubs would be lovely though! Let us know what you get! (Unfortunately no garden space here, so I am vicariously living through you!) . You know what, it's pretty odd here. It is and it isn't. Some plants seem to have arrived early and are already finished blooming, while others are just getting started. Weird times 🤷🏻‍♀️. The turtles live in the pond in the park and I think they have a heating source, so they're grand! ✨

I only see photos from instances that are not pixelfed.social. Most of the accounts I follow seem to be from that instance, so my timeline is full of these 'No preview available' white images. Pixelfed.social has the same problem as Mastodon.social: if they're down, the Fediverse feels the impact.

Yeah, that's true, when the biggest instances are down, it gets really quiet. But with so many cogs in the wheel, I suppose you can't avoid the odd hiccup every once in a while 😕
