Spontaneously decided to give #MechCommander (MC1) a whirl after having not played it since I was a kid (had to play with all the cheats back then lol), and have enjoyed it more than I thought I would! The menus are still stuck at low res just like #MechWarrior4 which sucks, but at least there are patches to make the "in-game" res a little more tolerable.

My Masakari was apparently wielding the most powerful arm ever found in the Inner Sphere, 3x C LP, 1x C ER-L and 3 C ER PPCs - the tech who rigged this up is insane.
It turns out this is just a MC1 quirk! All the weapons above a certain tonnage are allocated to the left arm (the paperdoll is mirrored), which might be a not *entirely* terrible way to easily distribute weapons from the developer's perspective, but is still pretty awful for mechs loaded mostly (or only!) heavier weapons. https://www.moddb.com/mods/mechcommander-gold-hi-res/tutorials/mc-players-guide-battlemech-introduction
