U.S. lawmakers demand answers after Canadian man says border officers made him give DNA sample | CBC News

American lawmakers are demanding answers from the Trump administration after a Canadian man says U.S. customs officers held him for three hours and forced him to provide a DNA sample before sending him home.

CBC
@kurtsh The GATTACA comparison is apt. What makes DNA collection at borders especially concerning is that genetic data isn't just identification — it reveals health predispositions, family relationships, and ancestry. Unlike a fingerprint, it can be re-analyzed as science advances. Data collected today will say more about you in 10 years than it does now.

The ultimate & final invasion of privacy.

The ignorance of individuals that voluntarily handed over their DNA over to corporations & legally sign off of their DNA's analysis was the litmus test of how poorly educated people of America are about what their DNA says about them.

"I need health insurance!"
"Sorry, our records show your DNA is predisposed to too many ailments."
"How do you know that?"
"You trusted your DNA to 23andMe or Ancestry."

For anyone that isn't aware of the real implications of what DNA analysis means for humanity, GATTACA is a great movie about the very real threat of genetic discrimination, human tracking & policing.
