Two female liberal thinkers in Holland in 18th C. will be highlighted with shared exhibitions in museums in Purmerend and The Beemster in the second half of 2026.

Betje Wolff-Bekker (24 July 1738 – 5 November 1804) was a Dutch novelist who, with "Aagje Deken, wrote several popular epistolary novels such as Sara Burgerhart (1782) and Willem Levend (1784).

The country " The Netherlands " did not even exist
Dutch changed much more than English because of its trading-culture.
More difficult to read.
I did not even read them yet. But she is regarded as having similarities with Jane Austen' s sharp and witty view.

I dare say I have been pushing a bit to the leafing team about projects like that, like I see here on Mastodon. Female hero's also neglected in Dutch history:)
