It Begins as a Tick Bite and Can Be Devastating. And It’s Spreading.

The incidence of alpha-gal syndrome appears to be growing significantly. Patients who are bitten can develop a severe allergy to red meat, and a few have died.

@ClimateJenny You know, I was debating whether to post about that on #SolarPunkSunday. Also, Alpha-Gal syndrome can make one allergic to dairy as well as red meat. I could live without red meat, but dairy? Ummmm...
@DoomsdaysCW Same here. The main reason I think it’s important to be aware of Alpha-Gal is that it keeps people like me from having a false sense of security if they live in an area where the Lone Star tick is dominant. It doesn’t transmit Lyme, but it’s not benign.

@ClimateJenny Yeah, and #LoneStarTicks are migrated as far north as Maine. Lots of reports in #NewYork as well.

@DoomsdaysCW Greetings from near the epicenter, which aparently is around Charlottesville VA.
@ClimateJenny @DoomsdaysCW This is Nature’s way of weaning us off red meat, since we won’t do it by ourselves
