I had promised you more #grannies from our Festival of #Wool & #Yarn. The square-bags were new, but I suspect the horrible shades of orange and brown are original 1970s. 🤭
We had a big hype with grannies in the 1960/70s, first with colourful fancy #hippie #fashion, then in the typical colours of rubbish bins (in the early 1970s, everything had that dirty orange: bins, coffee-machines, skirts, wall-papers). @fiberarts

@NatureMC @fiberarts the 1970s: burnt orange, avocado, and harvest gold 😆

@akamran Yeah, you have these fancy names! 🤣 I called them all "dirty *colourname*". And hated especially one skirt in a mixture of very big patterns in these colours. When standing in front of our wall paper (same patterns!), I suddenly vanished with half of my body. 😱 🥶 🤣

@fiberarts

@NatureMC I'd love to see a picture of that 🤣
@akamran It was some horror like this:
@NatureMC that is making me dizzy! I can't imagine living with that wallpaper 🥴
@akamran My uncle had something similar as a living room. 😎
Nowadays, I ask myself if it was a cheap ersatz for the meanwhile illegal psychedelic drugs.
@NatureMC @akamran a friend had a stripe detail running along the wall in their bedroom that was exactly these colors. Peak 70’s 🟧🟨🟫
@NatureMC i love the blue violett one!!
@jenni Ah, yes, what I first saw as grey (just edited the alt text, thanks).

@NatureMC @fiberarts Much of my youth was spent in a house with harvest gold shag carpeting. This is why 1970s fashion revivals leave me cold. These are the colors of forced fake cheerfulness.

I do like the sunflower square, however!

@ClimateJenny I think that here in Europe, we did it because we adopted each trend from the US as a hype but we didn't have the background (like that harvest gold).
We saw these colours and patterns mainly in James Bond films and other series ... there it had something "scifi", seemed to be the fashionable thing ...

The sunflowers are original 2026.

@NatureMC You are absolutely correctly to label these colors “dirty” because that was vibe.
