Gulf of Mexico oil spill spread hundreds of miles and polluted nature reserves

Mexican authorities say a March oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico spread more than 600 kilometers and reached protected areas. On Thursday, officials say satellite images point to three sources. They include an unidentified vessel and two natural oil seep sites. Navy officials say they still have not inspected all ships from early March. They also say the seep source remains active. Officials report 430 tons of hydrocarbons have been collected. Environment officials say seven protected areas are affected, but they detect no severe damage. They confirm several contaminated species.
