the notorious gztokay, so I've now watched Dirk Gently (2016) and Dirk Gently (2010), the former being two seasons of big budget indulgent modern fantasy and the latter being 4 episodes of old-fashioned BBC. Both kind of fun, but understandable why neither continued. #tv #dirkgently #douglasadams
fluffy 💜@gzt I defintiely preferred the 2010 series, particularly since it actually sorta followed the books and actually got Adams’ humor.
@fluffy yeah, the newer series definitely was more a "some characters inspired by..." type of series while the older one seemed like an attempt to directly adapt new stories to TV.

@Tak Yeah, S2 really fell off. Dirk spent way too much time moping about stuff, for instance.

@NickEast_IndieWriter They could definitely have done a lot more with 2010 Dirk. I feel like 2016 was backing themselves into a corner with their need to make everything bigger all the time.
@gzt Yeah, I do kind of agree with the always getting bigger it's a problem with a lot of TV writing. But I was very intrigued by the idea of other holistic charcaters like the assasin. That's something I wish they would've explored more 🤔 😁
