"While some people benefit from automobility, nearly everyone—whether or not they drive—is harmed by it. Slowing automobility’s violence and pollution will be impracticable without the replacement of policies that encourage Car Harm with policies that reduce it.”

This is a quote from a 2024 paper entitled, "Car harm: A global review of automobility’s harm to people and the environment", and I finally made a video about it (now on Nebula & Patreon):

Not Just Bikes — Every Reason to Hate Cars

"While some people benefit from automobility, nearly everyone—whether or not they drive—is harmed by it." This video is a summary of all the ways that cars harm cities, the environment, and people’s lives.

And as usual, the video will go public on YouTube on Sunday.

@notjustbikes North America’s economy is politically attached to cars (and steel/oil). Very hard for politicians in Canada and Ontario to fight to lower car addiction since that means job losses in key Ontario tidings. And very hard for Ottawa to fight to lower oil production for both Alberta politics and tax revenues. Car addiction is deeper than just consumers.
@jfmezei yes. that's why I don't live there anymore.
