The #Pentagon is considering whether to divert weapons intended for #Ukraine to the #MiddleEast as the #war in #Iran depletes some of the #US military’s most critical munitions, acc/to 3 people familiar with the matter.

Although a final decision to redirect the equipment has not yet been made, the shift would highlight the growing trade-offs required to sustain the US war against Iran, where CENTCOM has hit >9,000 targets in just under 4 weeks of fighting.

…Kyiv’s chief #Europe backers have taken the lead on funding & arming #Ukraine forces since #Trump took office. The #PURL initiative, brokered last year by #NATO, offered a work-around for Ukraine to keep getting #US weaponry, so long as the Europeans pay the bill. The deal provided Trump a political “win” & a way for NATO to quell fears that Kyiv could be left exposed by the admin’s ambition for a peace deal with #Russia.

#Europe now provides the bulk of #military support to Kyiv, including direct provisions separate from #NATO. But #PURL supplies #Ukraine with key #US equipment, including high-end munitions & scarce air defense interceptors. Countries have committed ~$4B for Ukraine through the program….

Since the…attack on #Iran on Feb 28, Europe has become concerned that the #Trump admin is rapidly using up its existing munitions, delaying their own orders & disrupting deliveries of US systems to Ukraine….

It was bound to happen. I saw a video in which 3-4 interceptors were fired to take down one missile. If #Iran is firing 100 missiles a day, then at least 300-400 interceptors are being used by Gulf countries and Israel. So doing the math, the number of interceptors that #US should have is at least 4-5 times the number of missiles in the inventory of its opponents (North Korea, Iran, China) combined. Forget #Russia, it is in a different league.

The United States is potentially using NATO funds to finance a war in which NATO, as a defensive alliance, is not participating and about which it was not consulted beforehand. If these funds are being misappropriated, Mark Rutte has to resign.
