Are near coastal waters warmer than offshore waters?
Can this result in stronger cyclones?

If Narrelle tracks south down the coast just offshore will wind speeds stay higher than a well-offshore southerly track would allow?

@skua moot point now, but the further south a cyclone in Australia goes, the cooler the water it feeds on gets. A tiny bit warmer in the shallow coast, but not enough to sustain cyclonic strength.
When they ease off to a tropical or subtropical storm, they still can carry lots of rain (as south WA has seen today) and storm-like winds.
