In trying to explain Traveller to the OSR discord I spent way too much time on this chart.

Short answer: support indie creators there’s awesome stuff in the Cepheus space. And this is the tip of the iceberg.

#TTRPG #Traveller #TravellerRpg #Cepheus #CepheusEngine #ClassicTraveller

@deinol
The flaw (well, one of them) in Traveller was the inability to improve characters after generating them. It was an odd thing to miss! Of course they corrected that later.

@Quasit

That’s not true! You can improve a skill after a year of game experience!

I actually think it’s an interesting feature rather than a bug. Advancement comes through improving your ship and gear.

@deinol
I had a friend who used to abuse the hell out of the Traveller character generation system.

He would try for IBIS (the Imperial Bureau of Internal Security) every time. The odds of getting it were miniscule, so if he failed he became a Belter. That generally meant guaranteed death before character generation was complete. So he'd just start over and try for IBIS again.

He ended up with an IBIS character every time! Eventually. 🤣

@Quasit pretty sure that’s an intended feature. Certainly plenty of people do that!
@deinol Could be worse, you could have tried to fit in 2300AD too. 😀

@RogerBW

If I did that I’d need Twilight 2k too!

@deinol Love that Traveller 20 and Traveller 5e are connected, despite having nothing in common *except* for the fact that both are shovelware created in an attempt to cash in on an already oversaturated market.

@BryanRombough

I mean, they share a common groundwork of 3e/5e DnD. No idea how it’ll turn out, I don’t plan to purchase it.

On the other hand Clement Sector 3e is getting reorganized into three volumes with errata included, I’ll be all over that when it comes out.

@deinol @BryanRombough If I wasn't playing classic or T5, I would probably be most interested in Cepheus Universal.

The is despite having a lot of MgT2 books.

@BryanRombough @DragonBard

Cepheus Universal is pretty great, there’s plenty to borrow for CT or T5 in it.
