Don't want Microsoft to take what you do on GitHub and use it for AI model training? Click "disable" here.

You can also separately click "disable" to turn off Copilot on GitHub.

@johncarlosbaez this is a far more lasting solution. "disable" only works until microslop "Oopsie, we enabled it again, sorry".

The second best option right now is probably Codeberg. Best option is a self hosted forgejo in a completely closed LAN, but that doesn't _fully_ support letting other people access your open source projects.

@johncarlosbaez With MS you are fighting whack-a-mole with these "Dark Patterns" and "Deceptive Designs". It's never one-and-done.

"New Feature" loophole: After you have disabled something, MS introduces new feature than enables them again. Alternatively whenever they offer quick "Finish Settings" they set options again if you press Accept instead of going trough them one by one. Also update settings for something not-related.

@johncarlosbaez Also, elevators have [DOOR CLOSE] buttons.
And, if possible, move your code elsewhere while you're at it - heard that Codeberg is beautiful this time of the year

@johncarlosbaez

Thanks!

They're disabled for now, until Microsoft re-enables them against my wishes.

Maybe I'll figure out how to move my blog to Codeberg by then.

@johncarlosbaez Better yet - migrate somewhere else and after a while delete your github repositories because they will keep making it harder and trickier to opt out until almost nobody does.
