@RTP Don't use #HexChat #XChat or #BitchX. They haven't been developed in years, possibly decades. They are prone to application and security issues. I'm not saying don't use #IRC. Just don't use those clients. Since I #selfhost , I use #TheLounge for my #IRCClient.

@RTP I LOVE #hexchat. It was my goto #IRC client for years. The maintainer abandoned it in Feb of 2024. See - https://hexchat.github.io/news/2.16.2.html

I jumped to #TheLounge because it behaves well on mobile and desktop and maintains connection when I'm not actually using it because I selfhost it 24x7.

So, zoitechat is the way to go
It's hexchat, but for gtk three
Accordingly, switch and say whee
You can use The Lounge too
Use both and let fun ensue
