Honestly… I thought that the Christian Rapture was a religious concept going back to the very beginning of the religion.

Nope. John Nelson Darby created it in the 1800s, after he had a fall and a knocked his nogging real hard.

Look him up. It’s a hoot.

@GayDeceiver Yup. Would have probably been considered heresy in the middle ages.

@gimulnautti I'm pretty sure most christian denominations would still consider it (and similar beliefs popular in the US like the Prosperity Gospel) heresy, but nowadays they're mostly more polite about it if you're part of a different denomination.

Raised evangelical fundy here... godless heathen now ... read way too many books..

But yeah as a little kid it always puzzled me why there were so many different variants within 'christianity' , Methodists, free methodists, baptists, catholics, Lutherans, Mormons, Episcopalian..... and then of course the answer is that they all 'don't have it quite right' and only our Sect/Denomination/Cult has it right..

I remember how surprised I was when I read "christians and catholics" mentioned by someone in the fediverse.
Clearly catholics are christians themselves...
