The business with Beren & Lúthien & their trusty hound Huan, who beat Sauron & went on to steal a Silmaril from the crown of Melkor/Morgoth while he was wearing it, is one of the most exciting & compelling bits of "The Silmarillion."
This btw was in the 1st Age. TRoP is set in the 2nd & eventually prob the 3rd. LotR ends the 3rd & begins the 4th.
It's a very old ring.
