So, I have R-CPD. Colloquially, "no-burp syndrome". I can't burp. Never could.

I never thought much of it, I thought it was kinda funny and odd, but alas, who cares?

Only recently, it was brought to my attention that this was an actual medical thing that can cause all kinds of issues - most of which I have! (abdominal bloating, constipation, heartburn, not being able to "fully breathe in", painful hiccups..)

I've always ascribed these issues to my IBS/SIBO, but I'm starting to understand that it might very well be the other way around!

Not being able to burp => means pumping massive amounts of oxygen through my GI tract => means IBS!

It's caused by some muscle in your throat not having a "relaxation" setting, and good news; there's a relatively simple procedure to fix this!

All this, both the medical recognition of the issue, and the fix, are pretty novel; like only some years old. So many people may have this, but not know about this thing at all. That's why I wanted to share! Cheers!

What is the Relationship between R-CPD (no-burp) and GERD? SIBO? IBS?

A huge thanks again to @donncha for sharing a podcast about this a month ago, else I might have never found out!

Unfortunately, my (temp) GP doesn't know much about it and pretty much immediately dismissed it, so I'm going to have to go through the second opinion hoops or wait for my main GP to come back!

What is this thing with doctors where they are both not knowledgeable enough about stuff, but also immediately have strong opinions on same stuff?? This thing is pretty novel, I wish he'd just read up on it, would take 5 minutes for him to realize he's wrong! 🤷‍♀️

@bazkie Oof 😩

Good luck getting the procedure to fix this, assuming you want it 💜

@bazkie I'm sorry  Hopefully your regular GP comes back soon and you can get the procedure sorted out.

@bazkie @donncha Veel succes in ieder geval.
@bazkie gawd, I've got the opposite: GERD and silent reflux. I should very much like one of my muscles tightened with a little spanner
@rgarner oof that sounds painful! is that the thing where some upper valve on top of your stomach doesn't close properly?
@bazkie that's the one. Hiatus hernia, or something very much like it.
@Russell Garner I feel you.

Sometimes I wake up at night when the acid flows into my mouth. It's called GERZ over here btw.

Typical timing: today I got medication for it.

@bazkie 👩🏼‍💻 bitplanes 🎵
@hans oh huh, that's a coincidence! I hope it helps!

@hans of *course* you lads get the cooler name.

Hope your meds help!

@Russell Garner It's the same name, really 😂

The D stands for Disease, which translates to Ziekte in Dutch. The other 3 letters are Latin and Greek.
