If you find someone difficult to be around, maybe it is time to consider the future of your relationship. Also, and this goes for literally every aspect of relationships, communicate for fucks sake!
Edit: oh, and if you can't communicate without being a dick or can't take criticism without getting defensive, it's time to learn. This world is fucked and is only going to get fuckeder if we don't start listening to each other.

It's time to step out of this collective idea we've developed that because we have known someone for an arbitrary amount of time or entered into a specific kind of relationship with them, that we're either obligated to tolerate everything about them until the end of time or we have to find a way to change them. There are other options.
