Founded in 1886, the hospital was originally based in a converted house on South Cumberland Road. In 1890, it moved to Kingston House in Tradeston before moving to this purpose-built hospital on Coplaw Street in 1895. A nurses' home was added in 1904, and further were added in 1927 and 1936. In 1948, it became the nascent NHS, and was finally closed in 1991.
