A somewhat fanciful illustration of the founding of Paris; probably it is depicting the Roman conquest of the encampment of the Celtic Parisii tribe.

I’m not 100% happy with the way the Web resolutions came out, but the print resolution will reproduce well.

@barefootliam What's your setting for the web resolution?
@bosak the image height is 750px. The main problem with this one is that i forgot to check the engraved shading in the sky for scaling artefacts. Almost-parallel lines a few pixels wide cause emergent patterns when reduced; the usual workarounds are to use a different interpolation method when downsizing, or to blur first and then sharpen again afterwards.

@barefootliam I tune my scans for Mastodon by downsampling png to a jpg that's 4096 in the long dimension, and the detail comes through pretty well. If I have a bunch of png files to convert, I call up Ubuntu under Win11 (the only thing I use Ubuntu for) and run

for f in *.png; do echo $f; magick -quiet "$f" -resize 4096x4096 -quality 90 "$(basename "$f" .png)_4096.jpg"; done

Imagemagick does a great job with this.

@bosak Hmm, right now i sell the high res scans, although it makes so little money i am leaning towards making them all freely available. But having multiple clients makes a big difference for taxes here.

I can see you get great results, though! Thanks! Will consider.
