Trump has learned he can manipulate the markets not based on reality, but based on what he says. So he says there are "negotiations" and US-friendly Pakistan plays along, just so the bond market doesn't completely collapse.

A 15 point plan from US. A 3 point plan from Iran. No common ground between them. No negotiations. It's all theatre for show to manipulate markets.

And he is not going to settle for Iran permanently controlling the Strait of Hormuz.

@dalfen @Rastal @welkin7 @killbait I am afraid it's not up to #trump at this point to settle for #iran controlling the #StraitOfHormuz . what may happen is that #gulf countries will start digging alternative routes to circumvent the strait (similar to what USA did to reduce dependency on ME #oil after 1973 embargo) to eventually reduce the importance of the waterway. meanwhile, they will have to pay #iran for safe passage.

If that comes to pass then the #IranWar would be justified as a War or #Necessity and not of War of Choice. That changes the entire equation. Entire group of countries who have hitherto silently opposed #IranWar and carried out actions which limit #US options will shift into silent support or active help.

That is not the worse part, #Israel might push for a balkanisation of #Iran and have its way.

If #Iran or some elements in Iran are thinking that it can get away by levying a toll on shipping across Strait of #Hormuz then it can forget it. This is not 15th century middle east nor is this 19th century era of protection rackets.

#Iraq and #Saddam tried something similar in 1990s. Did not end well for him or for that regime.
