While the #Dubya Admin never revealed who "Curveball" was, we did eventually figure out it was exiled Iraqi dissident Ahmed Chalibi... who was later revealed/branded "an Iranian spy" when they "discovered" there were no WMD's.

Bush's one & only exit strategy for Iraq was to replace Saddam with Chalibi. But when they discovered they had been duped, that left them with no way out.

Yup. My guess is same deal here. They've got some hungry-for-power guy who's talking them up about what he can give them if he were in charge.
