First up we have excerpts from Andy Warhol’s infamous 8hr epic “Empire” (https://youtu.be/6EBtj2EZaAY?si=aV3gFCCpGNuLccRZ) which is intended to show “time going by”. At it’s initial 1965 premiere some of the audience became agitated to the point of demanding refunds and even calling the police.

“Party Monster” (2003) is based on James St. James’s 1999 memoir “Disco Bloodbath: A Fabulous but True Tale of Murder in Clubland” which can be downloaded for free here (https://epdf.pub/disco-bloodbath-a-fabulous-but-true-tale-of-murder-in-clubland9cb1b66ef562f8e44a09940a9b91818226890.html) and the directors (Fenton Bailey & Randy Barbato)’s 1998 documentary “Party Monster: The Shockumentary” which can be watched here (https://youtu.be/F4OMbu03Ayo?si=0aOFYP9YxSGbz9gS)

Despite having a fairly small budget, “Party Monster” (2003) used over 1,000 different costumes. Many of which were the actual costumes and clothing worn by the Club Kids themselves in the 80s & 90s.

For being a DocuDrama, “Party Monster” (2003) is apparently fairly accurate to the events that unfolded when compared to people’s memoirs & court documents. That said, they apparently toned down A LOT of the drug & alcohol use and general abusive and toxic relationships between the people involved b/c the creative team thought that it wouldn’t be believable to audiences

@analgesicsleep very cool. I have reactions:

  • Please, Marie Menken in 1962: just by a tripod
  • I think I see where those Blair Witch people got their aesthetic
  • A video I saw on the internet has altered my consciousness
  • This was film. Tens or hundreds of thousands of still images. It's an amazing artifact.
  • @analgesicsleep I’ve watched a few docs on this, and man, you’re not kidding. #LaEsoterica
@rsmon77 not to be carceral but.. a good deal of the people involved deserved to be in prison for being just awful, awful people

@analgesicsleep I need to watch this. Not tonight, but soon. The noises I made as I read the cast list . . .
@GramrgednAngel it’s both a lot of fun and A LOT to take in
