🌊🪦 During a dramatic climate change more than 10,000 years ago, most bottom-dwelling organisms in the eastern Mediterranean Sea died, as evidenced by sapropel layers in sediment cores. Using climate simulations covering the past 21,000 years, #MPI_scientist Katharina Six et al. were able to provide a physically + biogeochemically consistent explanation for the origin, course, and end of this 4,000-year-long period for the first time.
